Inside Blakwave: Building Our First Shoe Prototype From Scratch

Inside Blakwave: Building Our First Shoe Prototype From Scratch

Blakwave is currently in the prototype stage.
This is not a launch post.
This is a transparent look at how we’re building our first shoe – step by step, from zero.

Early-stage prototype design created to test for, proportions, and Blakwave visual identity. This is not the final product. The design will evolve through testing and feedback.

Where It All Started

The idea for Blakwave emerged during my final year of engineering, while pursuing a B-Tech in Computer Science and training at a sports academy. I was living in Ahmedabad with friends who were deeply involved in football, and most daily conversations revolved around training, performance, and gear.

Over time, one pattern became impossible to ignore – almost no one trusted Indian sports brands for performance. When I asked why, the answer was clear. People didn’t want generic, mass-market products. They wanted focused, reliable gear built for serious use – and they were willing to pay for it.

One discussion made things even clearer. A sports professional shared that they had once tried building brand but couldn’t execute it due to manufacturing and cost challenges. That’s when I realized the problem wasn’t demand – it was execution.

Spending most of my time with footballers, I noticed that footwear mattered more than anything else. Shoes were where trust began. I thought I would start by first making a lifestyle sneaker. I decided to start there.

I began designing on my own and spent nearly nine months refining concepts, looking for something timeless that conveyed speed and intent. Once the direction felt right, the design was legally trademarked. Early feedback from Blakwave clothing line gave me the confidence to move forward with building our first shoe prototype – the journey that continues today.

Designing the First Prototype

At this stage, the goal wasn’t to create a perfect shoe – it was to find the right direction.

I began by sketching multiple concepts to explore shape, balance, and intent. Most ideas were rejected early, which helped narrow down what truly felt right for Blakwave.

This phase focused on clarity, not completion. Once a consistent and recognizable direction emerged, it became the foundation for building the first physical prototype.

This was the first step in turning an idea into something real.
The goal wasn’t perfection – it was to understand shape, structure, and how the design would translate in real form.

Building the First Sample

Once the design was finalized on paper, the next challenge becomes execution.
Translating a flat design into a physical shoe requires multiple iterations, pattern adjustments, and close coordination with the factory.

Testing, Feedback & Learning

This first sample is not meant for launch.
It is being built to understand shape, proportions, and construction in real form.
Once the prototype is ready, it will be tested with people from our circle to evaluate comfort, fit, and on-ground feel.
The goal is simple – learn fast, refine carefully, and build it the right waay

What Comes Next

The first prototype is just the beginning.
Once it’s ready, we’ll test it with some people, document feedback, and refine every detail.
Blakwave is being built step by step – with intention, honesty, and performance at the core.

We’ll be sharing this journey openly — including testing, feedback, and progress — as we move closer to the final prototype.
