What’s Missing in Today’s Indian Shoe Market — And Why We Started Blakwave

Ahmedabad. 2025

I was in my final year of engineering, training at a sports academy, surrounded by some of the most serious athletes I had ever met – footballers, sprinters, people who woke up before sunrise and trained until their bodies gave out. People who had given everything to their sport.

And every single one of them was wearing foreign brands on their feet.

One evening, I asked a friend – a footballer who had been training since he was twelve years old – why he never wore Indian shoe brands.

He looked at me like the answer was obvious.

They all feel like copies of something made for someone else.

We talked for a long time

But that conversation stayed with me.

And eventually, it changed everything.

If you look at the Indian sneaker market today, you will see hundreds of brands. Thousands of products. Every company talks about comfort, quality, design, and performance.

But something is missing.

It is not only about quality.
It is not only about price.

It is about identity.

Most Indian shoe brands are made in the same way, someone looked at what was working in the West and created a more affordable version of it – with an Indian price tag and an Indian-sounding name.

While global brands were building culture and long-term identity, Indian brands were often focused on following trends that were already successful elsewhere.

The result?

Products that work – but rarely feel original.
Shoes that exist – but do not stand for anything.

The Real Gap We Saw

Over time, we realised something important.

The problem with the Indian sneaker market wasn’t a lack of products.

Neither affordability nor demand.

The real gap was belief.

Athletes were willing to invest in good shoes. Consumers were ready to pay for quality. But many still felt safer choosing international brands, because performance trust had already been built there over decades.

Indian customers were not rejecting Indian brands.

They were waiting for brand they could truly trust – one that felt built for them, not adapted from somewhere else.

That insight changed how we thought about building a brand.

Why We Built Blakwave – And Why We Started With Sneakers

We started Blakwave because we believed India deserves a sports brand built with the same seriousness, hunger, and pride that Indians bring to everything they do.

We started with sneakers because sneakers are not just footwear – they never have been.

They are personal.

They are the first thing you put on in the morning and the last thing you take off at night. They move with you through workouts, failures, wins, long days, and new beginnings.

How We Are Building It –  Honest Version

We are not going to pretend we have everything figured out.

We do not.

We are still early. Still learning. Still building.

Right now, we are in the prototype stage, and the road ahead is long.

But one thing we decided from day one was simple,

We would never rush something just to launch faster.

We spent nine months working on the design alone – not because we could not move quicker, but because we refused to put our name on something rushed, copied, or built without intention.

For us, the foundation had to be right.

What Makes Blakwave Different – And We Will Be Honest About It

Nike in its early days. Their first shoes were not the most technically advanced products in the world.

Over time – product by product, year by year – they built on that foundation until the world could not ignore them.

When we asked ourselves what would truly make Blakwave different from every other brand, we made a decision most brands are afraid to make.

We decided not to lie.

We are not going to tell you our sneaker is the most comfortable shoe ever made.
We are not going to claim our materials are superior to everything else in the market.

Because the truth is – we are an early-stage brand.

And making those promises right now would be dishonest.

You deserve honesty more than marketing.

So we started with this question

How can we create a shoe that is undeniably Blackwave?

Because identity starts with identity.

And identity starts with design.

So we built the “Blakwave Arrow”

Not in a day. Not in a week.

Over nine months of sketching, rejecting ideas, and rebuilding from scratch, We created a signature design that will be on every Blackwave sneaker – an arrow that faces forward, that feels in motion even when standing still.

A design you can recognize from across the street and instantly know.

*That is Blakwave*

The Arrow is legally trademarked because, from the beginning, we knew this was not just a logo. It was the foundation of our identity

Identity may start attention, but performance earns trust.

The athletes we trained with taught us that a sneaker is respected only when it performs consistently – not just on day one, but over time.

That is why we are taking a slower approach. We are testing, learning, and improving with every prototype instead of rushing to make big claims.

It is something we aim to earn step by step.

We are moving forward, Stay connected with us
